Acting is tax deductible!

March 25th, 2008 by Steve Powers

Well, some of it. Fritz Vogt is doing my taxes for me this year (the first year I’m not doing them myself). Adding up all the classes, miles driven, wardrobe purchased, CITA magazine ads, business cards, head shots, web sites… Acting is freakin’ expensive.

Fight Club Audio

March 24th, 2008 by Steve Powers

Sarah Schow asked me to come in and read some dialogue for her in a voice over project she’s working on. It was lines from Fight Club, and I resisted the urge to watch it again and see how it was done. I’m glad I did, because the inclination to recreate what the other actor did is hard to ignore. I love doing voice work. No wardrobe, script on the stand, no hot lights. Good stuff.

Gumbo Party

March 22nd, 2008 by Steve Powers

Got to see a bunch of my friends from acting class tonight and met some new ones at Corey and Melissa’s gumbo party tonight. Did some catching up with Van, Lyn, Stephanie. What are the privacy rules around using the last names of people you know in your blog? I mean, could one of my actor friends be violating his parole by being at a bar, and my mentioning we were there together send him to the big house? Is it just polite? I don’t know.

About Me

My name is Steve Powers and I am an actor in Austin, Texas. The purpose of this blog is to share what I learn from my activities and experiences practicing the Craft. As my entire website is geared toward storytelling through acting I will refrain from making these blogs about my other interests. I have been a computer game developer for 17 years now, focusing on RPG and storytelling games for Origin, Looking Glass, Ion Storm, Midway and now Junction Point. I’ve been married for almost 10 years to my wonderful wife Holly and we share our home with three cats.
