“Life Lesson” ADR

November 26th, 2007 by Steve Powers

Tonight I’ll be doing some re-recording of dialogue that didn’t get picked up in the shoot. This is a challenging process for me, trying to match the focus I have on set while staring at a monitor speaking into a microphone. I’d take a class in this if I could find one…

Played with fire

I scheduled and shot three films on the same day! In the early morning I was Leopold in a restaurant scene for “POF”. Later in the afternoon I did a quick scene as Director #3 in “Self Preservation” and spent the evening as Professor Rivers in “Life Lesson”. In retrospect about a million things could have gone wrong that would have resulted in real complications for these filmmakers, so I’m not gonna try to juggle like that again. But things went smoothly and it was a great day.

I’ll be playing Professor Rivers in “Life Lesson”. Shooting… TOMORROW! I’m gonna be up awhile cramming on dialog…

“Life Lesson” and burgers.

Shot a project for DeRae Logan at the Burger Tex today. Man, the small of those burgers had my stomach growling so loud I was afraid the mike would pick it up.

After the shoot I went to the audition for CJ Woodring’s “Life Lesson”.

I’m Director #3!

I get to be jerk director #3 in “Self Preservation”. It’ll be fun to sit on the other side of the table for once, even though it’s just pretend.

Don’t Cross the Streams

“Self Preservation” audition was today. I auditioned for a role as a piggish film director that is really just interested in checking out racks on auditioning actresses. There was a weird paradox created in the audition where I am sitting behind a table with a script as a director in an audition looking across the room at a director behind the table running an audition. It’s a small but really funny part and I’d love to do it.

POF. I went to audition for Sarah Schow and by the time I got home I had the part! I’ll be playing Leopold, the freaky guy that seems to be really hung up on kid stuff. Playing creepy is just plain fun.

Steve Powers as “Steve Powers”

The easiest role landed in my lap today. Tomorrow a film crew will be at my day job making a brief documentary about new Disney employees. I’ll be on camera talking about what it’s like to be joining the company

Embers callback today.

Apparently Jeff didn’t hold it against me for calling him Scott a few days ago and had me come in for the next round of auditioning. I did some performances with a couple of potential wives for the film today.

“Retracted” I’ll be working with Kirk Lansdon and Christina Childress. I worked some with Christina in Van’s class and look forward to being on the set with her. Man, I love saying “on the set”.

Name Game

November 1st, 2007 by Steve Powers

I ran into the director of “Embers” while there for another audition and called him Scott by mistake. His name is Jeff, but I had just been reading about Scott Rice and there I go. Sorry Jeff… But seriously, memorizing names is a real problem for me, and in this industry I meet so many people and the names just seem to bounce off my skull. In a single audition there are sometimes five names during the introductions. I’m going to focus on getting better at this.
