One Down

This web site is now Going Live. One of my goals for 2007 was to create a personal acting website, and this Christmas break has given me a chance to get a head start. It’s been challenging to learn what is involved in setting up a doimain, selecting a hosting service, creating the pages. The most challenging aspect so far has been to link this summary of my blog to the front page. My friend Adam Creighton has really helped me a great deal with technical expertise and I’ve been inspired by what he has accomplished. Thanks Adam!

Romeo and Juliet

December 20th, 2006 by Steve Powers

Rehearsal continues for the Mother of Invention production of “Romeo and Juliet” that will be preformed at the City Theatre in February. Man, our treatment of the Prologue is so cool it gave me chills in rehearsal as it started to come together. I am off book now, but my load was fairly light as Montague. The more I learn about Shakespeare the more I understand why he was freakishly genius. I wonder how his brain just didn’t set people on fire

Rob Nash makes me want to pee my pants

I saw the show “It’s a Wonderful Life 70s Christmas Special”, A one-man-show starring Rob Nash. Rob is genuinely funny all the time… he just can’t help it. He’s not “on”, he’s just being himself. (He was part of the Samurai effort I wrote about earlier)

Robert, Misty and me with ROB NASH!

Busybody

December 15th, 2006 by Steve Powers

Went to see the Way off Broadway production of “Busybody” directed by Brent Jenkins. The theatre, and Brent, are close to my heart. He cast me in my first acting gig ever as the rattled cop in “Sorry, Wrong Chimney”. It is obvious from watching Busybody that he has again created a supportive, fun and highly personal atmosphere for his actors. They enjoy being in the show and it’s evident as their joy spreads to the audience.

MEAT

I just got to see the *almost* final cut of “Meat”, a comedy short film by Mark Vittek.

The Last Samurai… 2006

December 13th, 2006 by Steve Powers

I just wrapped up the last 2006 Samurai workshop session at Two Chairs studio with Van Brooks. It’s been a really powerful experience in getting my motor started and staying in gear, getting things done. Getting up so early in the morning (5:30 AM to make the trek from Cedar Park to the 7:00 AM East Austin class) really puts me out of my comfort zone. I’m learning a new appreciation for watching the sun rise… when I haven’t been up all night, anyway.

About Me

My name is Steve Powers and I am an actor in Austin, Texas. The purpose of this blog is to share what I learn from my activities and experiences practicing the Craft. As my entire website is geared toward storytelling through acting I will refrain from making these blogs about my other interests. I have been a computer game developer for 17 years now, focusing on RPG and storytelling games for Origin, Looking Glass, Ion Storm, Midway and now Junction Point. I’ve been married for almost 10 years to my wonderful wife Holly and we share our home with three cats.
